The presence of technology in libraries nowadays has become a necessity. To provide excellent service to patrons, librarians must be able to harness artificial intelligence technology to enhance responses to every piece of information, improve information quality, and optimize librarian performance. This study aims to utilize chat GPT in optimizing library services related to reference and information searches according to patrons' needs. This research is qualitative in nature and employs a literature study approach. Therefore, data is collected from previous research conducted by researchers or academics. In general, chat GPT, or Generative Pre-trained Transformer, is an artificial intelligence-based chatbot that generates practical and rapid text outputs. The use of chat GPT for librarians can provide benefits as a means of information retrieval, communication tool, paraphrasing tool, reference medium, and search tool that assists in finding information according to needs. However, the use of chat GPT should align with needs and necessitate discretion, and the obtained information must be verified again to ensure accountability.
