Abstract

This study investigates the role of local culture and Islamic values in sustaining small-family businesses for more than five years, with a focus on a case study from Indonesia. Employing a qualitative single case study approach, data were collected through direct observation and semistructured interviews spanning a six-year period (2017-2023). The findings indicate that the integration of local culture elements such as food taste, affordable pricing, and "mapesse" values, along with Islamic values including "ukhuwah," halal, and "thoyyib" food, significantly contributes to the sustainability of small-family businesses beyond the five-year mark. This research sheds light on the importance of cultural and ethical considerations in the success and longevity of such enterprises, particularly in the context of the country with strong application of cultural and Islamic value in society.
