THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE 2013 CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION IN STRENGTHENING THE STUDENTS CHARACTERS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Abstract


The effectiveness of the 2013 curriculum implementation can result in strengthening the character of elementary school students to reduce deviant behaviours that often occur due to the negative impacts of globalization. These deviant behaviours such as drinking liquor, pornography, drugs and brawls among students, and appropriate efforts to overcome these problems is through education, one of the ways taken by the government is through implementing the 2013 curriculum. which resulted in strengthening the character of elementary school students. The method in this study uses a qualitative approach and data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results were analysed, interpreted, and verified, while the results of the first research implementation of the 2013 curriculum for core competence-1 were related to religious character, good and controlled implementation of student worship, including the impact on strengthening courageous and honest characters, core competence-2 deals with social characters bore good social relationship such us respecting and polite to others chiefly teachers and parents, helping and sharing each other. Core competence-3 deals with cognitive, strengthening the character of elementary school students to become smarter since they are accustomed to memorizing the Qur'an and as a result, students' memory is high in subject so that they often win the Olympics while still putting the Qur'an as priority, core competence-4 is psychomotor, practicing religious lessons such as forenoon (dhuha) prayer, hajj practice, and getting used to fasting Monday and Thursday so that it strengthens religious character. Thus, a response from basic education institutions is needed to immediately adapt to the 2013 curriculum as a whole and more intensely in order to strengthen the character of students. This study only captures the implementation of the 2013 curriculum, so further studies are needed that look at the complexity of the problems faced by basic education institutions in implementing the curriculum as a whole in order to achieve comprehensive character strengthening
