Analysing Morphological Process in Two News Articles Found in NBC News

Abstract


The aim of this research is to know the kind of morphological process that the students mostly used in their utterances. This research was qualitative research and the resources of this research is from NBC News. The subject of the study was the third semester students who were taking Morphological and Syntax subject in English Education of Islamic State University of UIN Alauddin Makassar. This subject is limited only to third semester students in academic year 2023/2024. The data collection method used in this research is based on news articles related to war and kidnapping issues. This data contains word formation and will be classified based on categories and the and then analyzed based on word formation found in NBC News, namely derivation, compound, acronym, clipping/abbreviation, and conversion. By these types, compound words are the word formations that are most often found in articles because they are the basic division in word formation. However, in this research, the researcher  did not find clipping process. Based on the data collected, the researcher found 233 word formation on the NBC news articles. The researcher concluded that 188 words of derivation, 11 words of compound, 1 word of acronym, 4 words of initialism and 19 words of conversion.
